Course Overview
The Higher Diploma in Computer Science (Cyber Security) is designed to equip students with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to protect and defend information systems in today's digital world. The program provides a balanced foundation in computer science, and cybersecurity principles, while progressively introducing advanced topics in ethical hacking, network security, malware analysis, and digital forensics.
Students begin by mastering core computing areas such as programming, networks, databases, and system architecture, before advancing to specialized cybersecurity units. They will learn to analyze system vulnerabilities, implement robust defense mechanisms, conduct investigations, and assess threats using real-world tools and techniques. Emphasis is also placed on ethical considerations, critical thinking, and problem-solving in cyber contexts.
Entry Requirement
Students will be eligible to register for the Higher Diploma programme upon satisfying one of the following:Completion of GCE O/L (Ordinary Level) and GCE A/L (Advanced Level) with a minimum score: A–10, B–8, C–6, S–4 (up to 12 points can be earned)
OR
Completion of a recognized Degree Foundation program or equivalent professional qualification (minimum 6 months duration)
Learning Outcomes
- Analyze and evaluate the structure and security of information systems, identifying potential vulnerabilities and system requirements.
- Explain and implement core cybersecurity principles, including confidentiality, integrity, availability, risk management, and compliance.
- Conduct digital forensics and incident investigations, collecting, analyzing, and preserving digital evidence following legal and ethical standards.
- Implement network security protocols and cryptographic techniques, ensuring secure data communication and protection from unauthorized access.
- Analyze and reverse engineer malware, identifying its behavior, structure, and impact on systems.
- Conduct ethical hacking and vulnerability assessments, using penetration testing tools and methodologies in a controlled and responsible manner.
- Identify and mitigate network security threats, implementing proactive and reactive defense mechanisms.
